China’s cultural relationship to the past is diverse and fractured. The differences between the various dynasties alone guarantee great diversity. At the same time, all reference to the past is broken by the shock of modernity. Basic areas such as language, philosophy and history can be distinguished from secondary ones such as economy, folk culture or art. The different areas communicate with each other and complement each other.

Consulting

The cultural points of contact in intercultural cooperation are as complex as they are diverse. Employees must be taught basic skills for dealing with their counterparts, communication between the company headquarters and the subsidiary must be managed, internal communication between German and Chinese employees must be ensured, and intercultural tensions among the various players must be avoided or, if necessary, resolved. It may be worthwhile to impart basic language skills of the respective other side. At which point intercultural competence is needed is different in each company. The purpose of consulting is to identify problems and work out solutions.

Delegation accompaniment

International companies often operate in China without linguistic or cultural knowledge of their environment. This makes them dependent on local helpers (interpreters) who, in case of doubt, represent the interests of the Chinese side. As they have no language or culture, the Chinese do not take them seriously. Accompaniment by a linguistically competent, culturally versed cultural mediator guarantees that their own interests are not ignored and that the company representatives are taken seriously.
